M.Sc Nursing

The programme of MSc Nursing in Kerala approved by Indian Nursing Council, Kerala Nurses and Midwives’ Council and is affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) from 2010-2011 admissions onwards. This institution follows the regulations of the affiliating University in determining the
eligibility of candidates to undergo the course and conduct of curriculum, examination and award of Degree.

PHILOSOPHY

The Westfort College of Nursing believes that there is a need to prepare nurses to function in super specialty areas who are required in tertiary care institutions and Community healthcare settings. We accept the fact that Postgraduate programme in Nursing is essential to improve the quality of nursing education and nursing practice in the State in particular and in the country at large. This programme will prepare nurses to hold leadership positions in nursing services,
administration, education, and research. Further, this programme encourages accountability and commitment which fosters improvement of quality care.

AIMS

The aim of the Postgraduate programme in Nursing is to prepare graduate nurses to function efficiently as responsible nurse specialists, consultants, educators, administrators and researchers in a various healthcare setting.T hey are enabled to function in an innovative mode and seek opportunities that can bring in positive changes in there professional practice and thereby effect a healthy society.

OBJECTIVES

On completion of the two years MSc Nursing in Kerala, the Postgraduate nurse will

  • Utilize/apply the concepts, theories and  principles of Nursing Science
  • Demonstrate advanced competence in the practice of Nursing
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and function effectively as a specialist, educator and administrator
  • Demonstrate skill in conducting nursing research, interpreting and utilizing the findings from health-related research.
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan and effect change in Nursing practice and in the healthcare settings.
  • Demonstrate interest in continued learning for personal and professional advancement

ELIGIBILITY

  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council.
  • The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of regular degree course in Nursing – (B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. (Hons). Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing), with minimum of 55% aggregate marks, in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council and KUHS.
  • Candidate with PBBSc. Nursing degree shall have passed higher secondary course with Physics Chemistry and Biology
  • Basic B.Sc nursing with minimum one year of experience after Nursing Council Registration. One year compulsory nursing service/internship after successful completion of four year B.Sc Nursing can be considered as experience.
  • Minimum one year of experience prior or after regular Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Relaxation of marks for SC/ST & SEBC candidates may be given as per state government norms.
